What happens to your smartphone when you stop using it?
In Lives of Your Smartphones, British-Japanese artist Shinji Toya transforms photographs of smartphones into a strange, evolving digital landscape. The more people take part, the larger it grows, with each image gradually decaying over time.
Bring your smartphone to Bell Square to have a photograph of your device added to the artwork. You’ll receive a link to follow how its image changes over time.
Through this playful, thought-provoking installation, Toya invites us to have a look beyond our devices’ immaculate surfaces and consider their material lives, environmental impact and eventual disposal.
